Four Points of Advice from Rick Sapio

Throughout his career, Rick Sapio has made a great effort to be an insightful voice and source of valuable information. Whether as the four-time chairman of MIT’s "Gathering of Titans,"  the president of the Dallas Chapter of the Entrepreneur’s Organization, successful entrepreneur Rick Sapio continues to inform people and deliver exceptional advice. Below are four of Rick Sapio’s most oft-repeated pieces of advice, which can be applied to entrepreneurship or success in personal life.

Keep things very simple. Rick Sapio has achieved such great success by eschewing distractions that do nothing to further his goals. Owning neither a television nor a flashy car, Rick Sapio fully believes that life is exponentially richer when the focus is on the things that truly matter.

Build relationships. When it comes to business, Rick Sapio always makes connections with firms and people that he can build relationships with which are built on a platform of trust, respect, and mutual benefits. This sets both partners up for success.

Get rid of the short-term ideas. Throughout his nearly five decades of life, Rick Sapio has seen that short-term investments, whether financial or personal, tend to come with losses and frustration. Although short-term "excitement" like large lines of credit, immediate returns, and glamour can be extremely attractive, Rick Sapio finds that they do little for long-term success, and can even be a hindrance to true growth.

Focus on long-term objectives. Rick Sapio likes to quote Warren Buffett, who once said that he built his portfolio much the same way that one would "watch grass grow for thirty years." For Rick Sapio, long-term goals are the ones that tend to deliver real returns that won't vanish in the blink of an eye. Building on a solid foundation of patience and determination has been the key to success for Rick Sapio.
